IP or tightness tests

IP (Ingress Protection) tests are tightness tests that verify the resistance of a product to the intrusion of solids and liquids. In other words: tests for protection against water and dust using a series of specific values, which are carried out in accordance with international IP classification standards.

Fundamental type of test that we carry out with mastery at INFINITIA. These IP tests for electronic and industrial products allow us to guarantee that our clients’ products are resistant and safe in environments with exposure to water, dust and other particles and, consequently, reliable for the end user.

We comply with the waterproofing standards in different industries. In our laboratory, we carry out different water and dust resistance tests on products and materials to check their IP protection level. Find out all the details of our IP or waterproofing testing service.

Types of IP testing in product development

We validate that each component meets the necessary protection levels, maximizing its durability and functionality in demanding conditions. IP test types cover various water and dust protection tests, classified by two digits that indicate the level of resistance to solid particles and liquids. These types of tests are essential for manufacturers. They allow them to know the level of protection offered by their product and obtain the corresponding IP certification for each application.

At the INFINITIA laboratory we carry out specific tests for each IP classification level, in order to create products capable of withstanding the intended conditions of use.

Dust protection (first digit)

Here we explain the first types of IP testing for products and what each classification entails:

  • IP0X: Without specific protection against dust.
  • IP1X to IP4X: Protection against solid objects of various sizes, such as tools or large particles.
  • IP5X: Limited protection against dust; a minimal amount may enter, but does not affect the operation of the product.

IP6X: Completely dust-tight, offering total protection to prevent the entry of solid particles.

Water protection (second digit)

Within the IP tests, we distinguish these types of waterproofing tests for products:

  • IPX0: No specific protection against water.
  • IPX1 to IPX2: Protection against water drops at different angles.
  • IPX3 to IPX4: Protection against water jets from different directions; ideal for products exposed to splashes.
  • IPX5: Protection against low pressure water jets; water must not affect operation.
  • IPX6: Protection against strong jets of water; ideal for products that may be exposed to heavy rain or hose cleaning.
  • IPX7: Resistance to temporary immersion in water, up to 1 meter deep and for 30 minutes.

IPX8: Resistance to prolonged immersion in water, according to conditions specified by the manufacturer (depth and time).

Water and dust resistance tests

We evaluate a product’s response to conditions of exposure to liquids and solid particles. To do this, at the INFINITIA laboratory we apply a series of dust and water resistance tests that simulate real usage situations, ensuring that the products are protected and that their operation is not affected by the entry of water or particles.

We validate that the product meets the specified protection levels so that it is suitable for the most demanding environments without risk of failure. We carry out water and dust protection tests under different intensities, from mild exposure to immersion and spray simulations.

The importance of leak testing in product development

Leakage testing in product development is essential to confirm that each component meets waterproof standards. At INFINITIA, we perform IP protection tests for products that assess the design’s ability to prevent the ingress of water and dust. This type of testing allows vulnerable areas to be detected and necessary adjustments to be made to the design before the production phase.

Furthermore, IP testing for electronic products is essential to ensure that these devices are safe and functional in the presence of moisture or particles, protecting internal circuits and preventing failures or short circuits. This verification phase ensures product reliability, maximising its performance and lifespan under harsh conditions.

IP certification for industrial and electronic products is an essential requirement in sectors where exposure to water and dust is frequent. At INFINITIA, we offer IP protection and watertightness certification services that allow us to validate that each product meets the required protection levels. In this way, we certify the resistance of products to demanding environmental conditions.

We ensure that end customers receive high-quality products that are safe for use in high-risk environments. This certification process is essential to access regulated markets and meet the protection requirements of each industry.

IP or tightness tests

What are waterproofing tests?

We verify the resistance of products against the ingress of liquids. We guarantee their safe use in humid environments or with exposure to water. Waterproof testing for products is key to ensure that products can withstand rain, immersion and cleaning conditions without suffering damage or deterioration in their functionality.

These tests include simulations that reproduce different degrees of exposure to water, from splashes to complete immersion; validating that the product is prepared to face these environments without risk. IP waterproofing certification is especially important for products used outdoors, in industrial facilities and in electronic devices exposed to the elements.

Advantages of performing IP and tightness tests with INFINITIA

We are specialized professionals. We guarantee the certification of tightness and IP protection in our clients’ products. These are the benefits of choosing our IP protection testing services for products:

  • Comprehensive and personalized evaluation: We carry out customised tests and design setups for each IP protection level. Our aim is to produce a product that meets the specific requirements for waterproofing and dust resistance.
  • Safety and reliability in demanding environments: Safety is also our concern at INFINITIA. These leak tests during product development serve to validate the safety of the product. That the product can be used in environments with water and dust, protecting the internal components and guaranteeing their durability.
  • Detection of possible failures during the product development phases: Thanks to our tests to obtain IP waterproofing certification, we develop products with greater effectiveness, efficiency, and avoid future problems in their subsequent commercialization.

Failure cause analysis: We are specialists in forensic engineering, which allows us to analyse failures with complete rigour, including in IP testing. We determine why a product has failed in order to prevent it or establish responsibilities with the affected parties.
