What was the challenge or problem to be solved?
The INFINITIA team was faced with a critical failure. To solve it, they had to identify and analyse an unknown residue that was causing recurrent failures in an electrical component and was generating significant losses for the client, as well as reputational risk and loss of trust of its end customer.
The main challenge was to identify as precisely as possible the residues present in the defective cables, as this would make it possible to determine their possible origin and validate the different hypotheses that the client had put forward.
Given that this residue was not always visible to the naked eye, the task required a technical analysis using advanced tools. The objective was not only to identify the residue and analyse the cause of the failure, but also to propose practical solutions to prevent future failures and improve the quality of the electrical system.

How was it addressed or what was the solution?
To solve the problem, INFINITIA implemented a systematic approach based on advanced analysis, starting with an initial comparison between cables in good condition and faulty cables.
An optical microscope was used to visually identify the initial differences between the two, which provided a basis for the subsequent stages of the analysis.
The next step included advanced chemical characterisation techniques. Analysis was carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), so that organic compounds could be identified in the residues, revealing possible contaminants.
In addition, several further analyses were carried out, including using a scanning electron microscope SEM, which made it possible to determine the composition of metals and oxides that could be interfering with the electrical connections. This method completed the study by identifying specific chemical elements present in the waste that contributed to the appearance of an effect of corrosion and formation of the waste.
This comprehensive approach not only made it possible to accurately identify the chemical composition of the waste, but also to understand how it was affecting the electrical system.
Thanks to a detailed and exhaustive technical analysis, INFINITIA was able to identify the origin and composition of the waste compromising the electrical system, enabling the client to implement effective solutions to avoid future failures.
This approach not only solved a critical problem, but also contributed to optimising product quality and reinforcing the quality and reliability of the electrical component manufactured by the client, demonstrating INFINITIA’s commitment to technical excellence and focus on results.
