Validation of parts cleaning procedures in accordance with regulations

What was the challenge or problem to solve?

In this project, INFINITIA’s Materials Innovation team addressed the study and validation of parts cleaning procedures in the factory, with the aim of assessing whether the washing water complied with current regulations.

The challenge of this case consisted of extracting the analytes of interest by establishing an extraction protocol and, subsequently, selecting the most appropriate analytical technique to determine the concentration of the analytes.

Thanks to this study, it was possible to validate which of the possible part cleaning treatments produced the least amount of contaminants and, therefore, was the most suitable for our client.

How was it addressed or what was the solution?

After a review of the standards, we evaluated the possible extraction methods (such as ultrasound, soxhlet, etc.). This information search allowed us to determine the most appropriate procedure taking into account the analytes of interest and the matrix.

The next step was to select the analytical technique with which we carried out the quantitative analysis of the analytes. To determine the suitability of this technique we took into account different factors, especially sensitivity.

Once the strategy and methods were established, experiments were conducted on each of the samples. From the results obtained, our team was able to identify the cleaning method that released the least amount of contaminating compounds.

These conclusions were essential for our client to know the least contaminating cleaning procedure and, therefore, the one that was optimal for their needs.
